Introduction

As seems natural to me, an introduction should do two things: it should give you a reason to trust the person writing it, and it should explain what the book is about.

Trust is difficult to earn. It takes time, consistency, and perhaps a little luck. Who knows? Maybe I will be lucky. 😉

So let me begin with the essential thing about this book: I am writing it honestly.

The ideas you will find in these pages were not thrown onto paper without thought. They are opinions I have collected, questioned, reconsidered, and carried with me for years. They come from observation, from experience, from things I have seen, from mistakes I have made, and from questions that never fully left me alone. They are my ideas—not borrowed slogans, not fashionable conclusions, and not truths I expect everyone else to accept without reflection.

I do not necessarily want to make a fool of myself by writing this book. But if that happens, then at least I hope it will be entertaining. 🙂

Perhaps I should tell you more about myself, in order to give these words a clearer context. But I do not want my own story to eclipse the subject of the book, so I will stop here—for now. 😉

P.S. I will use emoticons whenever I feel they help me communicate more precisely what I mean. A written sentence does not always carry tone perfectly, and sometimes a small symbol can prevent an ironic remark from sounding cold, or a serious one from sounding harsher than intended.

Now, I still have to tell you what this book is actually about.

That is more difficult.

At its core, this book is about us: human beings, our place in the universe, and the way I see this strange and often confusing existence. It is about questions rather than final answers. It is about how we live, what we believe, why we fight, why we hope, why we build, and why we sometimes destroy the very things that make life worth living.

This book is not meant to change your faith or force you to see the world through my eyes. I do not claim to possess a final truth, and I do not expect you to abandon your own convictions simply because you have opened these pages. I only want to open a door. Whether you choose to look beyond it, to test what you find there against your own experience, or simply to close it and walk away—that is entirely your decision.

That, to me, would already be enough.

It is possible that some religious readers may feel uncomfortable with certain ideas in this book. But there is no reason for hostility. Just as you are free to believe in something and speak about it through every means available to you, I am equally free to speak about something else through a book. And, realistically, this is only one book—while you have millions. 😛

Joking aside, I ask only one thing from those who read it: approach these pages with patience and respect. If you have the strength to read and try to understand what I am saying, then I believe you also have enough openness to consider a truth that may not be familiar to you.

Whatever the truth may be, and whoever may believe they possess it, it should always be carried with respect.

This is only the beginning. The next part will follow soon.
